Spain's first world champion

Andrés Temiño Mediel, aged 21, won the recurve mixed team title with Elia Canales against Korea, Spain's first-ever world title, and the next day became the country's first individual world champion. Each of his matches from the last 16 to the semifinal, against Su Yu-yang, Matías Grande and Kim Je-deok, finished 6–4. The final against Marcus D'Almeida went to a shoot-off, where Temiño shot a 10 and D'Almeida a 9.

Home gold for Kang Chae-young

Kang Chae-young recovered from 4–0 down to beat Olympic champion An San 6–4 in the semifinal, then defeated China's Zhu Jingyi for the title. It was one of two golds for the host nation, the other coming from the recurve men's team of Kim Woo-jin, Kim Je-deok and Lee Woo-seok.

Becerra leads from start to finish

Andrea Becerra led the compound women's competition from qualification to the final, shooting through torrential rain and dropping only eight points from the quarterfinals onward. She became Mexico's first individual world champion in archery.

Why it matters

Gwangju broke patterns. Korea's recurve women, winners of every Olympic team title since 1988, did not make the team final. Spain and Mexico produced first-time individual champions. India won its first compound men's team world title, part of a run that continued through the 2026 Asian Games.
